With the help of our free resources, Geography teachers can plan a workshop using the Colliers Green Focus method of Finding a Sense of Place Through the Lens of Camera. It's very simple and no previous experience of photography is required. There are three basic stages to our workshop plan, but you can introduce new aspects and exercises to suit your current scheme of work.
Your activity could happen at a location near the school, further afield or even in the school grounds.
We encourage teachers to make use of students' mobile phone cameras. Most young people now possess phones with good quality built-in cameras and this could overcome practical difficulties if the school does not have access to a set of digital compact cameras. If you are having problems getting access to cameras, please contact us to enquire about borrowing a set.
Your school can enter up to 10 images in to our Mobile photography competition. (We accept entries taken by both digital compact and mobile phone cameras).
All shortlisted students are invited to attend our annual awards ceremony in London with their teacher where their work will be exhibited.
The first prize is £1,000 of photography equipment for the school.
Geography teachers can attend one of our two-hour INSET sessions led by our professional geographer and photographer. Cameras are provided and previous skills in photography are not required - this is a great opportunity to try something new!
Written resources materials are available here.
