What is Colliers Green Focus?
Colliers Green Focus is an exciting project that is now
in it's third year. The project is aimed at Key Stage 3 Geography
and enables them to spend a day with a photographer and geographer
exploring the environment on a field trip in their local area.
This year a new strand was
introduced allowing the scheme to reach many more schools
through a series of Colliers Green Focus inset days around
the country allowing teachers to carry out workshops independently.
A selection of photographs taken on
the field trip, as part of each workshop, will be shown in
the Colliers Green Focus exhibition at The Photographers'
Gallery in September 2009. Judges will choose three winning
entries to be announced at an annual national award ceremony.
A selection of photographs will also go into a specially designed
resource book and website, for photography students and teachers
to make use of as part of their work.
Where does Colliers Green Focus take place?
Each one day workshop will be run in partnership with schools
in Birmingham, Bristol, Cambridge, Leeds, London and Manchester
and take place in classrooms and on a fieldtrip within each
school's local area.
When will the workshops and subsequent
exhibition of student work take place?
Year three of the Colliers Green Focus programme is now underway.
The exhibition and announcement of winners for 2010 will take
place in November when the Colliers Green Focus resource publication
will also be launched.
What will determine if our school is granted a workshop?
Schools entering will be judged on
their initial application. Selectors will carefully consider
all responses listed on the entry forms and select ten schools
from the listed regions. Decisions will be based on each applicant's
plans or desires for fieldtrip work during the Spring and
Summer terms as well as where and how the workshop might best
play a role. Schools that are not awarded a workshop this
year are welcome to reapply the following year.
