What is Colliers Green Focus?
Colliers Green Focus is an exciting, new project for Key
Stage 3 Geography students, enabling them to spend a day with
a photographer and geographer exploring the environment on
a fieldtrip in their local area.
A selection of photographs taken on the field trip, as part
of each workshop, will be shown in the Colliers Green Focus
exhibition at The Photographers' Gallery in September 2009.
Judges will choose three winning entries to be announced at
an annual national award ceremony.
A selection of photographs will also go into a specially designed
resource book and website, for photography students and teachers
to make use of as part of their work.
Where will Colliers Green Focus take place?
Each one day workshop will be run in partnership with schools
in Birmingham, Bristol, Cambridge, Leeds, London and Manchester
and take place in classrooms and on a fieldtrip within each
school's local area.
When will the workshops and subsequent
exhibition of student work take place?
Year two of the Colliers Green Focus programme is now open
for entries with the deadline on Monday 3 November.
In November 2008 the selected schools will be announced and
a one-day workshop will be organised on a day convenient to
each school, during the Autumn, spring or summer term. A planning
session between each lead teacher and the project leaders
will be scheduled in advance of each workshop, to ensure each
session is tailored to the needs, interests and prior experiences
of the students.
All work produced will automatically be considered for the
exhibition which will take place at The Photographers' Gallery
in September 2009. A resource publication and website will
be made available in September 2010.
What will determine if our school is granted a workshop?
Schools entering will be judged on
their initial application. Selectors will carefully consider
all responses listed on the entry forms and select ten schools
from the listed regions. Decisions will be based on each applicant's
plans or desires for fieldtrip work during the Spring and
Summer terms as well as where and how the workshop might best
play a role. Schools that are not awarded a workshop this
year are welcome to reapply the following year.
