Each successful applicant school is offered a one-day, bespoke workshop involving a fieldtrip – planned and led by a photographer and geographer in consultation with teachers at each school – relating to pupils’ current topic of study within their Geography class.

Pupils will make use of digital cameras as tools for research, exploration and documentation. They will understand how photography might be best-applied within an environmental geography context and how to get the most from cameras within their future work. Pupils will also be expected to write about what they have photographed as part of the workshop, to add further context to their images.

All photographs taken as part of the Colliers Green Focus workshops will be automatically entered into the Colliers Green Focus photography competition, the winning entries of which will be exhibited at The Photographers' Gallery in London in September 2008. Prizes will be given to the top three entries.

Finally, a selection of work produced from the Colliers Green Focus workshops will also feature within a resource publication for Geography teachers, offering additional ideas for projects using photography as part of the Geography curriculum at Key Stage 3.
